The project encompasses the organisation and teaching specialist English and German  courses for the Lower Silesian Chamber of Architects.

Project objective:

The objective of the project encompassing a cycle of English and German courses teaching specialist language to meet the needs of the Lower Silesian Chamber of Architects members. The courses will allow to improve communication skills using specialist vocabulary, present a professional profile, and interpret specialist literature and documentation.

The project goal is pursued by organising and teaching:

English courses encompassing

  • vocabulary building in the field of architecture
  • developing communication skills (topics are related to architecture)
  • developing presentation skills and discussing architecture projects
  • developing reading comprehension skills and interpretation of professional literature and documentation

German course encompassing

  • vocabulary building in the field of architecture
  • developing communication skills in everyday professional situation by building linguistic resources
  • continuation of language skills development – listening, reading, speaking and writing
  • building intercultural knowledge base

Project duration - stage III: 24.03.2021- 30.06.2021

Where: online using Zoom or MS Teams

Language placement for course participants: placement test or continuation of work after the previous project stages.

Project stage III activities encompass:

Teaching specialist English and German courses for the members of the Lower Silesian Chamber of Architects who declared they wanted to continue their participation in the specialist language courses at the level B2 (minimum level for English courses) and  B1 ((minimum level for German courses). The courses are taught online.

Course contents:

English B2+

  1. Novel trends in spatial planning
  2. 3D printing use in design and construction
  3. Organic architecture (bioarchitecture)
  4. Examples of original and unconventional architecture
  5. New challenges and sustainable development in architecture
  6. Cooperation with clients
  7. Presentations related to various professional interests
  8. Discussing papers related to various professional interests.

The main emphasis will be put on the development of communication skills and vocabulary.

Materials:

  1. Authentic materials.
  2. Teachers’ own materials.

German A2/B1

  1. Self-presentation, work and interests. Revision of vocabulary and grammar.
  2. Everyday professional and private life situations – activities, dates, making appointments. The Plusquamperfekt tense.
  3. Vocabulary: flats, buildings, rooms.  Project – my dream flat. Space design. Prepositions used with the 3rd and 4th grammatical case.
  4. Professions, the job of an architect – opportunities, advantages and disadvantages. Prepositions.
  5. Job market in Wrocław and Munich. Job offer comparison. Subordinate clauses “dass”
  6. Urban space – design and transport. Gradation of adjectives.
  7. Friendly City project
  8. Comparison of selected aspects of city life in Hannover and Wrocław.
  9. Berlin – historical monuments. The past and presents day. Adjective declension with the definite and indefinite article
  10. Famous architects and their projects. Time clauses: als and wenn
