I. HISTORY OUTLINE
1. An outline of Polish history, culture and geography: basic facts.
2. The Baptism of Poland in 966 and its consequences.
3. The Piast dynasty.
4. The Jagiellonian dynasty.
5. Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
6. King Jan III Sobieski and Battle of Vienna. Polish-Turkish Relations: an outline.
7. The first modern constitution in Europe: The constitution of 3 May 1791.
8. Partitions of Poland.
9. Independence regained by Poland in 1918: Fathers of Polish independence in 1918.
10. The 1920 Battle of Warsaw: How Bolshevism was stopped from spreading across Europe.
11. The World War II.
12. The Iron Curtain and communism in Poland.
13. The Solidarity Movement and the fall of communism.
14. Poland after the fall of communism.

II. CULTURE
1. Polish historical cities and their landmarks: e.g. Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Gniezno, Wroclaw, Gdańsk, Toruń and Łódź.

3. Polish music: Chopin, elements of folklore and modern music.
4. Art and folklore of Poland.
5. Public and religious holidays:
a. Polish National Independence Day on 11 th November;
b. All Saints’ Day on the 1 st November;
c. Christmas;
d. Easter.
6. Polish cuisine.
7. Sport and sport stars.
III. COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Attendance (two absences are allowed, more than two need to be justified);
2. Final test (55 % is required to pass the test and consequently the course)
