Rules for completing language courses

The rules for completing language courses apply regardless of the form of teaching. The same rules apply to the teaching delivered in traditional, online synchronous and mixed formats. 

  1. Doctoral students of the Doctoral School of Wrocław University of Science and Technology have the right to complete the language course choosing from the offer of courses presented by the Department of Foreign Languages of Wrocław University of Science and Technology (DFL) and in accordance with the programme of the Doctoral School. Doctoral students are to complete 90 * / 60 ** hours of obligatory English language course at B2 level at least (Offer of courses).
  2. In accordance with the Regulations of the Doctoral School, the doctoral student may complete an additional 30 or 60 hours of the language course (up to 150 * / 120 ** hours in total). One can choose English or other foreign language course from the DFL offer. The rules for completing the additional course are the same as for the obligatory course.
  3. By enroling on a language course, the doctoral student undertakes to attend classes on regular basis. Changes related to the resignation from the course or transfer to another group are possible only during the first five working days of the semester. The same course cannot be completed twice.
  4. Teachers do not have the possibility of signing a participant out from the course. In justified cases, after submitting the application to the Vice-Director for Part-time Studies, Doctoral School and Internationalization, one can be signed out of the course by the Dean's Office of the Doctoral School or the Secretary Office of the DFL.
  5. Each language course is credited by a grade. A doctoral student attending a course within 150 * / 120 ** hours offered by the university is required to complete the course within the time frames established by the teacher.
  6. The requirements for completing each language course are given by the teacher at the beginning of the semester. The detailed requirements for crediting each of the courses are described in the corresponding Subject Cards.
  7. A doctoral student who did not meet the requirements presented by the teacher at the beginning of the course may not obtain a credit and receive an unsatisfactory grade (2.0), which will be entered into the ICT system and a protocol.
  8. Unjustified absence from classes exceeding 20% ​​of the course duration may result in failure to complete the course.
  9. A doctoral student who has reached the limit of hours for language courses offered by the university, may still enrol on a foreign language course but is obliged to pay for the course. The price of the course is established by a proper Internal Regulation of the Rector. In the first week of classes, the doctoral student should show the teacher the proof of payment for the course. In the case of a paid course, the participant may be exempt from the crediting requirements and does not have to receive a grade and thus have it entered into the ICT system and the protocol.
