TIME CAPSULE

Competition for students and employees of Wrocław University of Science and Technology

Do you want to create history together with us? Leave your own trace for future generations?

Imagine that you can preserve the image of the modern world in a time capsule. What will you place in the capsule? Why?

Take part in the competition organised by the Department of Foreign Languages at Wrocław University of Science and Technology to choose the contents of the Time Capsule that best reflect modern times. Select one object (maximum size: 20x20x10cm) which you think should be placed in the The Capsule. Take a photo of the object and justify in writing why it perfectly reflects this moment in history.

Submit your entry in the link - a photo of the object (maximum file size: 10MB) and the written justification (number of words: 50-100). Deadline: 06.03.2022.

The competition jury will select 10 winners who will place their chosen real-life objects in the Time Capsule to be buried during the celebration event of the 70th anniversary of the Department of Foreign Languages in spring 2022.

Adjudication of the Time capsule competition

organised by the Department of Foreign Languages of Wrocław University of Science and Technology

On 16.03.2022 the Jury composed of:

  • Vice-Rector for Education Prof. Agnieszka Bieńkowska,
  • SJO representative Paulina Rogulska, MA
  • Doctoral students' representative Wojciech Żuławiński, M.Sc,
  • Student representative Adam Pawleta and
  • SJO Director Iwona Frankiewicz, MA

adjudicated the 'Time Capsule' competition and selected 10 items from among the submissions, which will be buried in a special capsule during the ceremony related to the 70th anniversary of the Department of Foreign Languages of Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

 

The winning entries are, in order of the highest number of points:

  1. FFP2 mask – a symbol of the pandemic and isolation (43 points).

  1. smartphone (29 points) – a symbol of addiction to constant access to information.

  1. Wrocław’s gnome/dwarf – a symbol of Wrocław (25 points).

  1. sweatpants – a symbol of the outfit used by many to work remotely (22 points).

  1. a key - as a memorable object going out of use (19 points).

  1. world map – the state of the country borders as of March 2022 (17 pts).

  1. plastic carrier bag – a symbol of prosperity of half of the world, yet poverty of the other half (14 pts).

  1. plant seeds with instructions for planting - future generations will be able to recreate contemporary plants (13 pts).

The winners are requested to come to the SJO Office (Building H4 room 103) from 21.03.2022 to 01.04.2022 to collect their prizes. When collecting the prize, please hand over the winning item to be placed in the Capsule.
