About the Team

The English Language Section, as the largest language team at the Department of Foreign Languages, has currently 56 employees - teachers, lecturers and senior lecturers, including native speakers. The team offers English language courses at various levels of advancement: B2, C1 and C2.  Depending on the degree programme and level of language skills, students can learn general, academic and specialist English, as well as English for the work environment.

Systematically updated English language curricula, based on the surveys of students, graduates and employers ensure high-quality language education and learning outcomes that meet the needs of the labour market and employers’ requirements.

Apart from teaching English as a foreign language to full-time and part-time students, the team also provides courses for the Doctoral School.

The team is also responsible for organising examinations for Erasmus+ programme participants.

We also offer courses preparing for international certificate exams, such as IELTS, C1 Advanced and B2 First. Examiners from the English Language Section conduct TELC and ACERT certificate examinations for students and doctoral student of Wrocław University of Science and Technology and other universities.

As part of the work of the Translation Team, English language specialists provide translation (written and oral) and proofreading services for the University.

The team actively participates in various university projects. In recent years, these have included: ‘Improving the language competences of the Faculty of Chemistry students in response to labour market needs’, ‘Innovative University - Innovative Teacher’ and independently implemented the ‘Senior’ project.

Many teachers are currently involved in the ‘Masters of Didactics’ project and individual English classes for students and doctoral students with disabilities. Team members also offer proprietary commercial English courses for WUST employees, students and all comers.

The members of the English Language Section organise and participate in numerous language events. These include the Language Juvenalia, the Language Tournament, Polytechnic Night, the Lower Silesian Science Festival and the National English Language Olympiad for Technical University Students in Poznań, where our students have been very successful, becoming finalists and winners.

The English Language Section actively participates in the organisation of scientific and educational conferences. In 2023, it co-organised the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) conference for the fourth time.

Through our diverse teaching and extracurricular activities, we not only teach our students English but also familiarise them with the broadly understood culture of English-speaking countries, contributing to the development of their interests and knowledge of the world. We provide our students with a tool for communication and improvement of their professional skills, and that is undoubtedly English – the language of global communication in international study and work environments.
