Department of Foreign Languages

Report on the launch of the 2019/20 tandem project

Share your culture, share your language

In the winter semester 2019/20 we are continuing the intercultural project in the Department of Foreign Language, which involves PWr students and foreign students studying at our university under the Erasmus+ programme. This is the fourth edition of the project, which has enjoyed great interest among students in previous years.

The project allows students to establish cooperation and friendship through joint integration meetings and the implementation of tasks set by the coordinator of a language group. We work in five language groups - English language group (80 people), Spanish language group (16 people), Russian language group (35 people), French language group (10 people) and German language group (15 people).

Students' work is monitored during the semester by a language tutor - a SJO lecturer. Students work in language tandems, which helps in direct contacts and develops their language skills. The program also aims to provide care for foreign students and effectively help them learn Polish language, our culture and break down intercultural barriers. Upon completion, students will receive certificates confirming their participation in SJO's intercultural project.

On October 29, 2019, the internationalization team organized a kick-off meeting, which was attended by a record number - 156 students. We prepared team-building games, speed interviews and interesting tasks for individual language teams and tandems. The students were enthusiastic about the project and immediately created tandems of their own.

We will be able to admire the effects of students' work at the next meetings in December and January. We have also created our own website of the project, which is to enable students to communicate better and is a kind of a platform for presenting joint work and exchanging ideas for interesting ways of spending time.

I would like to sincerely thank the coordinators of the language sections: Elena Kolarczyk MA, Natalia Lesiak MA (Russian language), Zofia Paroń MA (French language), Magdalena Zalewska MA (Spanish language), Kinga Piotrowska MA, Agnieszka Krzos MA, Ewa Bogusz - Broy MA, Justyna Socha MA (English language), Katarzyna Martynowicz MA and Agata Wardyńska MA (Polish and English language for foreigners) for their involvement.

The initiator, project leader and coordinator of the German-speaking group is MA Anna Kania.
